Sometimes it can feel like the world is working against our hair game. Especially during the winter with extreme weather, indoor heating, heat damage (not to mention hat hair) all drying out our hair, leaving our hair lackluster and fluffy. This is why you NEED to introduce a weekly hair mask into your regime to hydrate, nourish, and restore your hair. Here’s a roundup of our ride or die hair masks, from DIY masks to luxe splurges and drugstore faves, there’s a mask for everyone – you guys literally don’t have an excuse!
The Ultimate Restorative Mask
This Kiehl’s Olive Fruit Oil Deeply Repairative Hair Pak mask will restore even the most brittle hair. Initially inspired by all-natural DIY masks, it’ll condition your locks, hydrating the hair fibers by restoring moisture levels. It contains avocado oil and olive fruit oil, which are rich in fatty and amino acids that’ll restore shine, leaving your hair looking glossy AF. If you style your hair with heat regularly, this mask is a must.
How to use: Apply it to clean, shampooed hair, paying particular attention to the ends of your hair. Leave the mask on your hair for five minutes (or more), then wash thoroughly and follow with conditioner.

The Moisturizing DIY Mask
This mask is quick and easy, and it’s literally bursting with healthy hair vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids. The coconut oil will nourish the scalp and detox sebum build-up while argan oil hydrates and strengthens the hair follicle. Peppermint oil is one of our fave hair treatment ingredients as it has antibacterial properties, boosts scalp health, and can even help to keep dandruff at bay. You can even add two or three drops of peppermint essential oil to your bottle of shampoo to get the benefits every time you wash your hair.
2 tbsps of coconut oil
2 tbsps of argan oil (supplement with olive oil or canola if argan isn’t available)
2-3 drops of peppermint essential oil, or lavender oil
Whisk the four ingredients together. Apply the mask evenly over towel-dried hair, paying particular attention to the ends of your hair. If you suffer from dandruff or a dry scalp, work the mix into the roots too. Clip your hair up (so you don’t get oil everywhere), and cover with a shower cap. Let the mask sit for 30 minutes before rinsing with your daily shampoo and conditioner.
Top tip: If your hair is thick or long, feel free to double up on the ingredients to ensure you have enough.
The On-The-Go Hair Saviour
We don’t think there’ll ever be a time when Jen Atkin doesn’t come through for us. This gel formula is packed with proteins and natural ingredients like artichoke leaf extract to seal the hair cuticle and protect it from future damage. Each mask is in its own sachet, so you can keep it with you when you’re on the go – Jen literally thinks of everything!
How to use: You can apply this mask to wet or dry hair, and you can even sleep in it overnight. Just make sure you wash it thoroughly with shampoo after usage. Jen recommends applying it to your hair before a workout so that your hair absorbs the heat and moisture in the air.

The Must-Have For Dyed Hair
Everybody in the hair industry swears by the Olaplex Hair Perfector. You may have even heard the word whispered at your salon by your colorist or by Kim K, who uses this treatment weekly. It’s a professional-grade hair treatment that rights the wrongs of chemical treatments by relinking the broken bonds caused by bleaching and hair dye. But don’t worry, it’s not only an in-house salon treatment, as the brand has now created a product containing the key active ingredients to keep your hair looking fresh at home too. For the full three-step treatment, the first two steps can be done in the salon, and then you complete the third (and optional fourth and fifth) at home.
How to use: Apply a generous amount to towel-dried hair and leave the formula in your hair for 10-15 minutes, follow with shampoo and conditioner.

The Drugstore Bargain
This L’Oréal Extraordinary Oil Nourishing Masque balm has been a favorite of ours for years! It contains six different flower extracts including rose, lotus, and chamomile, so it leaves your hair smelling delicious and of course, feeling super soft.
How to use: Apply to shampooed hair, focusing on the ends and leave on for 3-5 minutes (no need to follow with conditioner). Do this 1-2 times a week.

The All-Natural DIY Avocado mask
This DIY contains all three of our go-to DIY ingredients, which you probably already have in your kitchen! The coconut oil can help prevent hair loss or hair fall, as it’s a rich source of lauric acid. The olive oil will add weight and moisture to the hair helping tame flyaways and prevent split ends from forming – you can even warm a drop in your palms and glide it across dry hair, just make sure you apply a small drop, otherwise it could end up looking greasy!
1/2 avocado, pitted
2 Tablespoons coconut oil
2 Tablespoons olive oil
Melt the coconut oil in a bowl and then mix in the olive oil. Mash the avocado completely until smooth (you can use a food processor, but make sure only to pump it). Add the mask to clean hair and wrap with a plastic bag or shower cap. Let it sit for 30 minutes before washing your hair with shampoo and conditioner.
